How we handle paid stories

Always labelled

Every paid story carries a Sponsored label above the headline and on every card, naming who paid for it. That is a legal requirement and a promise to our readers — it is not optional and cannot be removed for a fee.

Links are marked as paid

Links from a sponsored story to your site are tagged as paid links, which is what search engines require. Anyone promising you SEO value from an unmarked paid link is putting your site at risk as well as ours.

We edit for readers

We will fix errors, cut fluff and ask for real detail. If a story reads as an advert with no value to a local reader, we will send it back with notes rather than publish it.

What we will not run

Attacks on named businesses or people, medical or financial claims we cannot verify, anything misleading about who is behind it, or content aimed at manipulating search rankings rather than informing readers.
